HOW TO PREPARE

GATE exam questions aren't like  typical subjective questions of  your college exams instead they are objective type and application oriented.

Before you start any subject for e.g. Strength of Material (SOM) first go through its GATE syllabus and then have a glace at the previous year Gate questions asked from this subject.
Try to solve some questions and check how much hold you have on your concepts and ascertain your level. Never try to mug up any topic instead learn the concept behind it which is very essential for problem solving approach.

For concept building refer standard books of good authors and don't rely on local authors book that you had referred during your college days.
You can also refer Hand written notes of MADE EASY Classes as it contains all the necessary content as per GATE syllabus.
Give your 1st preference to Standard Reference books if you have got ample time for your preparation (especially 2nd Year Students).
Now , once you're done with all the concepts of SOM again try solving previous year GATE questions on it.
Try to solve more than 70% previous year questions accurately as it will increase your self confidence and practice more questions to improve your accuracy.
I am attaching here the link of Test Series from where you can practice more Gate oriented questions to improve your accuracy.

If you're not able to solve sums then analyse where you went wrong, identify the type of mistakes you are doing whether it is a conceptual mistake or a silly mistake and try to rectify it and always read questions properly and take your time to understand it.
In this way you can master one subject and repeat the same procedure for another subjects too.
